The North & Steel story
About North & Steel
Clean jewellery for men. Designed for everyday wear and built around the details that finish a look.
Not sure where to start?
This guide helps you find the right chain length, thickness and finish for your style.
Chain length
- 45 cm (18") — Collarbone: Sits just below the collarbone. Works well with open collars and crew necks.
- 50 cm (20") — Chest: The most versatile length. Sits mid-chest and works with most necklines.
- 55 cm (22") — Lower chest: A longer, more relaxed look. Works well layered or worn alone with a V-neck.
- 60 cm (24") — Statement: Sits low on the chest. Best for layering or making a bolder statement.
Chain thickness
- Thin (1–2 mm): Subtle and minimal. Best worn alone or layered with a pendant.
- Medium (3–4 mm): Balanced and versatile. Works for everyday wear and most styles.
- Thick (5 mm+): Bold and visible. Best as a standalone statement piece.
Gold, silver or black?
- Silver (steel): Clean and versatile. Pairs well with cool tones, grey, navy and white.
- Gold: Warm and premium. Works with earth tones, beige, olive and black.
- Black: Minimal and bold. Pairs well with all-black outfits and darker palettes.
Combining chain and bracelet
Match metals for a clean look — gold chain with gold bracelet, or silver with silver. Mixing metals can work, but keep it intentional: one mixed piece maximum.
Wearing with different collars
- Open collar / no shirt: Any length works. Medium thickness looks best.
- Crew neck: Go shorter (45–50 cm) so the chain sits above the neckline.
- V-neck: Longer chains (50–55 cm) follow the V and look intentional.
- Turtleneck: Skip the chain or wear it outside the collar as a statement.
